Send the PDF, a scan or a clear photo. If your passport spells a name differently, tell us in the comments.

  2. translate

    A NAATI translator translates it

Every field is translated, including notes recorded on the certificate and any apostille.

  3. mark_email_read

    Receive your certified PDF

Typically within 24–48 hours, ready to upload with your application. Add a printed copy by post if you need one.

What you receive

A translation built to be checked

Your translation is compared line by line with your passport and other documents, so it has to be complete and exact.

  • Every field translated, including the notes recorded on the certificate.
  • Names exactly as on the certificate, in the same spelling and order.
  • The translator's NAATI stamp and certification statement, showing who translated it and their NAATI credential.
  • Our letterhead with our address and telephone number, so the translation can be traced back to us.

Getting your birth certificate from Australia

You can do all of this from Australia.

From Australia

Just-on-web, free

The FPS Justice portal Just-on-web gives access to the civil records database (BAEC). You can request, view and download copies and extracts there, free of charge.

Which version

Copy, not extract

A copy carries the original data and its history; an extract shows current data only. For citizenship, Home Affairs asks for a full birth certificate, so choose the copy.

Older records

Ask the commune

Some older records were not migrated to the database. For those, contact the commune where the birth was registered.

What Home Affairs asks of a translation

From the Department of Home Affairs' guidance on documents in languages other than English:

  • Provide the original document together with the English translation.
  • In Australia, use a translator accredited by NAATI.
  • Include the translator's full name, address and telephone number, and qualifications and experience in the language, all in English.

Our certified translations carry the translator's NAATI stamp and certification statement, on our letterhead with our address and telephone number.

What to send us
  • The official certificate as a PDF, or a clear colour scan where every line is readable.
  • Every page in one file, including the apostille if there is one.
  • Any spelling your names must match on your passport, written in the comments box.
  • Every page of the certificate, including notes in the margin and any apostille.
Questions

Frequently asked questions

My name is spelled differently on my passport. What happens?

A certified translation reproduces names exactly as they are written on the certificate. If your passport shows a different spelling or order, mention it in the comments when you order so we can discuss it with you before translation starts.

How long does the translation take?

The typical turnaround for a birth certificate is 24 to 48 hours. An urgent option is available when you order.

Do I need an apostille on my Belgian birth certificate?

Home Affairs' evidence guidance asks for the original document and an English translation, not an apostille. If another authority asks for one, the FPS Foreign Affairs issues apostilles electronically. An apostille is translated as an extra page.

Can I get a printed copy?

Yes. The certified translation is always delivered as a PDF by email, and you can add a printed copy sent by post when you order.
